Some Kind Of Leader are currently recording new tracks and will be announcing upcoming gigs very shortly...

Concept

The seed of Some Kind Of Leader was sewn when singer/songwriter Ali Price relocated to Cardiff in Summer 2009 with the sole intention of forming a new act. With DJ/producer Peter Carter (Acid Casuals / Retrac) , the pair hatched plans for an outlet for their love of electronica, psychedelia and rock.

By September Leon Hartley (Lead Guitarist), Matt Blumberg (Bass/Backing vocals) and Gareth Davies (Drummer) had been united under their banner and the four began writing together immediately.

Getting started

A sound quickly gelled and with the studio input of Carter, the five ended 2009 in remote North Wales exploring their influences and laying down the raw foundation of new material.

Of course any music conceived in Wales could not help but befit a Super Furry Animals’ influence. Carter’s experience in recording under his Acid Casuals’ moniker with SFA’s Paps began to ooze into the bands work, as fledgling S.K.O.L jams began to take an ever more spacey and hypnotic direction.

Sound

Citing influences from the likes of Super Furry Animals, The XX, Joy Division, Oasis, B.R.M.C, The Who, and The Doors, S.K.O.L weave gritty riffs and electronica into a groove machine rhythm section.

“They have a rich sound with electronica
underpinning driving rock anthems.”

Commitement

With a sound that pulls apart the rock aesthetic and twists it into something unique yet highly recognisable, Some Kind Of Leader will be pouring their boundless energy into every gig and recording that comes their way in the coming months. Setting out their stall and with a distinct synergy running through the band, they aim to delve deeper into their fusion of riffs and electronics. With a recording project and touring scheduled they will soon be elevated into a position where their take on alternative rock will first turn heads then send them spinning.
