"Sadly, not every moment of one’s existence can take place on a languid sunny day. Thankfully, Cardiff four-piece Some Kind of Leader are here with their brand of aural sunshine. It’s like drinking drowsy cough medicine, without the unpleasant side effects. I’m not promising it will cure your cough though.

Two Pair is going somewhere, but is in no hurry to get there. Wonderfully clear productions means you can savour the nimble strolling bass line. The spiralling guitars are a highlight, promising to transport the listener on a magical journey. Psychadelic sound effects add to the magical mystery tour, but never appear indulgent. This is a band perfectly in control. You are in safe hands.

This song is nearly six minutes long, with an leisurely fade out. It could be twice that length and I would never tire of it. Singer Ali Price is a modern day Shaman and I’m willing to follow his mellifluous tones wherever he wants to take me. He expresses light and shade, which makes both more piquant.

Two Pair recalls The Verve, back when they were just Verve. This song is more languid than the Indie classic A Man Called Sun, but it could easily have played a supporting role on one of their early E.P.s. Fans of the band Levitation – and indeed the gravity defying state of the same name – should definitely check out Some Kind Of Leader."

"Some Kind Of Leader are currently one of the brightest bands emerging from Wales. Managing to span both genres and time, their sound is familiar yet there is an edge that at first you can't quite put your finger on that really sets them apart. Currently working with some of the biggest and best names in the Welsh music scene to take their sound further, S.K.O.L are a band we'll be watching closely."

Sean Williams, Zeitgeist Magazine, June 2011

"Psychedelic indie rock? A bit passé to the in crowd, who are all listening to Afrobeat, but they've missed a sweet little trick with Some Kind Of Leader. 'Changer' is not by any means scaring the horses, and may not even be too psychedelic. However, what we do have is five minutes of reverb drenched melancholy, the delicately nasal vocals and shimmering cymbal pattern tethered to a framework of warm bass. The guitar work is understated, filtered through a mist of echoes, but the melodies are simple and rather beautiful. The lyrics are thoughtful yet the delivery gives them momentum, as does the band's ability to use tempo changes for mood. A high-pitched guitr solo twinkles behind the crooned middle eight, and the track doesn't plunge into the familiar final chorus catharsis that emotional songs demand, but instead eases into an almost jazz influenced instrumental fadeout, with the guitar becoming increasingly spectral until the song reaches its gentle haunting conclusion.

D'you know the dream sequence in films where the protagonist is visited by the ghost of a loved one to be told something profound? 'Changer' is the musical equivalent. There's something unsettling in it's bittersweet undertones, but the whole thing is wrapped in a soft gauzy atmosphere, that leaves the listener assured that not only is this mournful presence benign, but this five minutes is the one you will feel compelled to visit again and again, until the phantom hand finally touches you..."

"New single 'Changer' - recorded with Kris Jenkins of The Peth and formerly The Super Furry Animals in his Cardiff studio - is a mid-tempo, lo-fi number steeped in Matt Blumberg's moody bass rumblings, Gareth Davies' purposeful drum beats and Leon Hartley's beautifully quixotic guitar licks. With Ali Price's vocal strongly redolent of Ocean Colour Scene's Simon Fowler, they're the perfect fit as Price sings dejectedly, "You feel ashamed at, the feelings you gave me, I'm a changer and I'll be on my way because...... I've lost nothing." 'Changer' which was produced and mastered by techno producer/ DJ Pete Carter (aka RETRAC, Acid Casuals), is essentially more indie at heart, although it's rhythm section adds a compelling dimension - listening to it I couldn't help but thing of Saint Germain's 'I Want You To Get Together'. Whatever about categorizing Some Kind Of Leader's sound, that fact is that 'Changer' is a great appetizer of what is to come, brandishing the individual members' talents to alluring effect." 9/10

"They have a rich sound with electronica underpinning driving rock anthems."
